Chair offers corrections to minutes

The rules on pages 382-383 of RONR 10th ed. make it clear that the chair should not participate in debate because of the need to appear impartial. Except in some limited cases, the chair shouldn't make motions.

Does this principle prevent the chair from suggesting corrections to the assembly during the process of approving the minutes? It seems that the chair would be in a particularly good position to suggest changes -- for instance, when the wording of a motion in the minutes does not match his written notes (from which he read when putting the question).

No. Though one might wonder why his written record of a motion differs from the secretary's. And why he didn't give the secretary his notes in the first place.

I concur. However, if the Chairman is a member of the assembly, then he/she has the right to offer corrections or amendments to the Minutes. Alhtough, the Chairman should know the final wording of every motion and should have consulted with the Secretary prior to the meeting as to the final wording of motions (i.e. made sure that the Chairman's notes on the wording of motions is the same as the Secretary's, as the Chairman has to know the wording of the motion for when the motion is voted upon.)
