Guest David Linthicum Posted December 15, 2012 at 09:34 PM Report Share Posted December 15, 2012 at 09:34 PM Is it permissible to make a motion to waive a bylaw provision which limits the president to two consequetive terms? We have an exceptional president in place with no real candidates to fill the role and would like to offer him a third term (with two-thirds vote). g40 Posted December 15, 2012 at 09:38 PM Report Share Posted December 15, 2012 at 09:38 PM No. Follow your bylaws' procedures to change the bylaws.
jstackpo Posted December 15, 2012 at 09:39 PM Report Share Posted December 15, 2012 at 09:39 PM Nope, unless the bylaws say they can be waived in that particular respect. If you have time to comply with the various amendment requirements, you could amend the bylaws to remove the term limitation - vote on that on election night before (re)electing the good president and it will go into effect immediately.
