Guest TRI Posted May 5, 2015 at 09:36 PM Report Share Posted May 5, 2015 at 09:36 PM Can new business be introduced, immediately motioned for implementation, second, and voted on without the floor first being open to prior discussion? If it cannot, does that make a vote completed in this manner considered void?
Edgar Guest Posted May 5, 2015 at 09:40 PM Report Share Posted May 5, 2015 at 09:40 PM Most motions are debatable but once a vote takes place, it's too late to complain. Next time speak up sooner.

Gary Novosielski Posted May 6, 2015 at 02:53 PM Report Share Posted May 6, 2015 at 02:53 PM Anyone who voted with the prevailing side can move to reconsider the motion, at the same session. True, but in nearly any situation (and this one is no exception) this rule is of of little help to the losing side, unless someone has had a change of heart. In this case, the motion passed, and the OP presumably didn't like that outcome, or at least didn't like the fact that there was no opportunity for debate (presuming it was a debatable motion). But without a change of heart by someone who voted Yes, there's little he can do. It's still not clear in this situation why there was no debate. Was it just that nobody spoke up? Maybe we'll find out.
