Guest JPS Posted September 4, 2015 at 01:42 PM Report Share Posted September 4, 2015 at 01:42 PM Can a member nominate him or herself for an elected position (Vice President)?
Edgar Guest Posted September 4, 2015 at 01:45 PM Report Share Posted September 4, 2015 at 01:45 PM Yes. Some here (not I) like to refer to it as "volunteering". We're told that General Robert (the first "R" in "RONR") described nominating oneself as "indelicate". From a purely political perspective, it would be better if this person could find someone else to make the nomination.

Hieu H. Huynh Posted September 4, 2015 at 02:55 PM Report Share Posted September 4, 2015 at 02:55 PM You won't find it in RONR. RONR does not address a member nominating himself or herself for an elected position.

Edgar Guest Posted September 4, 2015 at 03:09 PM Report Share Posted September 4, 2015 at 03:09 PM The first "R" in "RONR" is "Rules". So it is. That's what I get for trying to be clever.
Edgar Guest Posted September 4, 2015 at 03:11 PM Report Share Posted September 4, 2015 at 03:11 PM Edgar A. Guest, can you tell me where I can find this, so that I can quote it? Thank you As Mr. Huynh suggests, there's nothing in RONR that prohibits a person from nominating himself. So if someone says that there is, the burden of proof is on the person making that claim to produce the rule.
Guest Nancy N. Posted September 4, 2015 at 05:39 PM Report Share Posted September 4, 2015 at 05:39 PM The way you might look at it is, being a member entails having the right to nominate (RONR, 11th Ed, top of p. 3, where it says "concomitant" to encourage us to go back to law school finally), and RONR ("Robert's Offspring Never Relaxes"), gives no restriction on whom a member may nominate.
