"Mr.", "PhD" or Subject?

Recommended Posts

Would it be possible to lean on the suppliers of the B-Board system to change the title of the required "Title" fill-in box to something like "Topic" or "Subject" or the like?  This is the box that you get when you click on "Start new Topic".

Many of the posting show only "Mr." or "Ms" or "Association President" as the  title. This  conveys no information as to the real content of the posting.   It's natural as the newbies (guests, usually) take the word to be asking for their titles, not a "title" for the posting. This makes it hard to select those that fit one's specialty (if any) to respond to.

OH! SO that is why we are seeing these odd subject lines. Yeah "Title" is ambiguous.  It is likely configurable in the forum software.

Note that even the FAQ on the forum doesn't make this crystal clear:

"

  • In the "Topic Details" section, fill in the "Title" box with a brief title for your topic. Note: Enter the title you wish assigned to your topic. Please do not enter your personal title in the "Title" box.

I would propose replacing "Enter the title you wish assigned to ..." with "Enter the subject .."

Better yet, can someone "lean on" the message board technicians to just dump the "new" format and go back to the old one?  It was working quite well and was much better than what we have now.   I don't see anything good about the new setup but have a whole lot of complaints about it.

I'll second any motion made to that effect, as well as debating in favour of the motion, and voting for the motion.
