Greg Goodwiller, PRP Posted June 29, 2016 at 05:03 PM Report Share Posted June 29, 2016 at 05:03 PM Agreed, but the simple rule is: "While, or immediately after, the chair announces the result of a vote . . . a member can call for a division from his seat, without obtaining the floor" (RONR pg. 282, ll. 14-17). Clearly, once any other business has been taken up, it is too late.

The division must be called for before any other debate or business has intervened. This includes, but is not limited to, the chair stating the question on the next item of business.
