Jim bench Posted February 10, 2017 at 10:50 PM Report Share Posted February 10, 2017 at 10:50 PM Can the chairman of a business meeting also address the meeting as the chairman of an official committee (Finance committee), without stepping aside from one of the positions? If an alternate chairman is not available, can he retain both positions and address the committee business, or does the committee business have to be tabled ?. Chris Harrison Posted February 11, 2017 at 12:06 AM Report Share Posted February 11, 2017 at 12:06 AM Technically speaking there is no rule in RONR that absolutely REQUIRES he either have someone else from the Committee give the report or turn over the Chair to a Chair pro tem while he gives the Committee's report (unless the members Suspend the Rules to have someone else preside). However, if he feels so strongly about the Committee's business that he doesn't feel that he can delegate the responsibility to someone else to make the report he should turn over the Chair to someone else (see RONR pp. 452-453 for details).
