Guest nathan Posted March 4, 2017 at 09:50 PM Report Share Posted March 4, 2017 at 09:50 PM In my organization there was a question as to the assessment of a temporary fee. Is there anything in Robert's rules that would prohibit a temporary assessment from being a standing rule and, or, does assessment require a secret vote? Joshua Katz Posted March 4, 2017 at 09:52 PM Report Share Posted March 4, 2017 at 09:52 PM There's nothing requiring secrecy, but any assessment would need to be authorized in the bylaws. The bylaws could permit a standing rule to set the amount, but if the bylaws do not mention such a fee, it cannot be assessed.
Guest nathan Posted March 4, 2017 at 09:59 PM Report Share Posted March 4, 2017 at 09:59 PM thank you for your prompt answer. I will need to prove it to the body so, can you give me the citation for that bit of information?

Guest Nathan Posted March 4, 2017 at 10:08 PM Report Share Posted March 4, 2017 at 10:08 PM That is very clear. I will have a follow up question that i will move into its own topic because it is much more complicated and in depth.
