Council

According to our Procedure Bylaw any rule can be suspended with a vote.  One of the rules in our bylaw is that two weeks notice must be given with a resolution of council to change a date of a council meeting.  All dates are set at the beginning of the year.  I read in Rogers, Canadian Law, that notice cannot be suspended.  Does anyone have clarity on this?

"3. SUSPENSION
3.1 Any rule contained in this By-law may be suspended by a vote of the majority of the members present, except in cases where the Act or by this By-law, some other vote is required."

"Council may by resolution vary the date and time of a regular meeting as circumstances may require."

"Notice of any change of day or time of a regular meeting of Council must be posted in the municipal office and on the municipal website at least fourteen (14) days before the regular scheduled date of the meeting."

IN our Municipal Act Procedure Manual it also states we must give notice by a resolution of council.  Thank you in advance.

Guest Angela, is this "council" by any chance considered a public body?

Edited to add:  Also, what is this "Act" referred to in the first paragraph of your quote from the bylaws?

Agreeing with Transpower, if the public law says you must give notice and does not provide for its own suspension, then you must give notice.
