joejk Posted April 4, 2017 at 05:01 PM Report Share Posted April 4, 2017 at 05:01 PM Our chair told me that when a motion is made, and debate has not yet started on that motion, and then someone moves previous question, it only takes a simple majority to pass that previous question motion (not 2/3 majority as it would if debate had started). I can't find anything about this in RONR and it seems very strange because you're taking away the right to debate with just a simple majority...so, is this actually true? George Mervosh Posted April 4, 2017 at 05:05 PM Report Share Posted April 4, 2017 at 05:05 PM Ask him for a citation on that. The motion always requires a 2/3 vote for its adoption. You should raise a point of order the next time the chair makes this erroneous ruling.
