Guest wondering.. Posted April 6, 2017 at 01:01 PM Report Share Posted April 6, 2017 at 01:01 PM Bylaws state: President is not ex-officio member of nominating committee. President does select Nom Comm Chair and 4 members, approved by board.NomComm presents slate of candidates to board at March meeting. NomComm presents slate to general meeting in April. Slate voted in in May general meeting after being published in newsletter. By-laws do not say Exec Board approves slate of candidates. This is the problem: NomComm presents slate at March Board meeting w/o Pres candidate as its been a tough road for them. They were waiting for last candidate to reply at the March board meeting. Current President pushes NomComm member for names so we might pressure them for an answer. NomComm member politely declines to give up that information. Board member brings up fact that only NomComm should have contact w/candidates and board agrees. Minutes before General Meeting, President calls exec board to a fast meeting to vote on the existing slate of candidates before presenting to membership. Done in case we ‘don’t think there might be a good fit’ with the slate. Board member says we don’t have to vote to accespt the slate of candidates as this is not in our by-laws. We are told ‘its always been done’. Meeting takes all of 2 minutes Does the executive board have to vote to accept the slate of candidates presented by the NomCom? Is this correct or even necessary? Is this correct or even necessary? Under the rules in RONR, the answer to your first question is, no, and to your second, it is not necessary or proper. The committee presents their report to the members followed by nominations from the floor.
