Guest audra mitchell Posted May 24, 2017 at 04:16 AM Report Share Posted May 24, 2017 at 04:16 AM If motion is made but not seconded, and in the interest of time a motion is then made to table discussion until next meeting, how should moderator initiate next meetin, ask for 2nd to initial motion?? jstackpo Posted May 24, 2017 at 06:52 AM Report Share Posted May 24, 2017 at 06:52 AM You really mean "postpone" not "table". See RONR p. 215ff. Once the motion is postponed, it should come up automatically as a "General Order" at the next meeting, see p. 185 and p. 26. No "second" is necessary, p. 35ff. Bruce Lages Posted May 24, 2017 at 01:45 PM Report Share Posted May 24, 2017 at 01:45 PM If a motion is made and not seconded, there should be nothing to postpone (and discussion can not be postponed, only motions). Without a second, the motion should die, and can just be made again at the next meeting. The exception to this in your case could be that discussion was allowed to begin without a second ever being offered. In that case the absence of a second is immaterial, and the motion is before the assembly and can be postponed to the next meeting.
