Elections ending in tie votes

We are a non profit 501 (3) (c) in Massachusetts. Currently we elect a board of directors each May at our annual meeting.  The ballot consists of candidates and we are asked to vote for UP TO THREE (3)  candidates.

What do we do in the event of a tie vote in any of the candidates?  We do not have language currently that addresses this.  We are looking for guidance as to what we language we should propose for next year's annual meeting.  In addition, what should we do at the May meeting in the event of ties since any new language will not take place until July of 2018?

Thank you for your assistance.
