Jacqueline Posted July 18, 2017 at 06:38 PM Report Share Posted July 18, 2017 at 06:38 PM how do you handle a redo to elect or break a tie for the office of president ,and is it open to anyone else to run if it's a special meeting called only to break a tie from the previous election? Richard Brown Posted July 18, 2017 at 06:51 PM Report Share Posted July 18, 2017 at 06:51 PM (edited) A little more information would be helpful, but, according to RONR, if there is a tie in an election you normally keep voting until someone finally wins. Edited to add: you do have other options, such as reopening nominations. It is possible that the new nominee will ultimately win. One of the nominees might also offer to withdraw or they might decide to flip a coin to determine who will withdraw. However, any such action must be voluntary and even if a candidate withdraws, members can still cast write-in votes for that candidate. No candidate can be forced to withdraw and you cannot drop the candidate with the fewest number of votes unless your bylaws provide for that. Don't be surprised if an administrator moves it there.
