removing a board member

Hi All

We have a board member, who when asked by the President to do something, pointed a finger at the President and said "you don't tell me what to do."

this said member only shows up for meetings and never helps out at any functions. And has been the reason some board members have left the board.

Is there any way we can remove him.

Your bylaws may contain rules on removal.  Alternatively, the provision for term of office may contain the words "or until their successors are elected."  Otherwise, removal would be by the disciplinary process in chapter XX of RONR.  It is unlikely that pointing a finger and saying "you don't tell me what to do" (which may be true, if it means the President doesn't have the power to tell him what to do, but is clearly false if meant to be descriptive, since the President was telling him what to do) will be deemed sufficient for removal via the disciplinary process, though.
