joekronen Posted May 20, 2010 at 01:49 PM Report Share Posted May 20, 2010 at 01:49 PM After a school board meeting was adjourned, a member wanted to change their vote, for the record, on a motion that was passed during the meeting. Can a vote be changed after the meeting was adjourned?

George Mervosh Posted May 20, 2010 at 02:44 PM Report Share Posted May 20, 2010 at 02:44 PM If the member opposes the motion that passed, he might be able to move to rescind or amend what was adopted. RONR, pp. 293-
Robert B Fish Posted May 20, 2010 at 03:18 PM Report Share Posted May 20, 2010 at 03:18 PM In addition, school boards are political bodies. The member has many options if he/she now realizes his vote was "ill-considered." These include moving to rescind/amend, as has been noted. They also include making public statements decrying that the "new information" was not available when he voted, and other posturing outside the meeting. It should be noted that most school boards have notice requirements for all actions and therefore rescind can be accomplished by a majority vote.In the end, it really comes down to what the member is trying to accomplish by changing his vote...posturing or change.-Bob

I thought perhaps he later decided it would be better to have been on the winning side.
