Nominations

The Nominating Committee is looking for suitable candidates among the current membership to be nominated to the board of directors. By-Law #1 states that an individual must be a member in good standing for one year before they may serve on the board of directors. Some of our members inadvertently let their membership lapse for year. Do they qualify for nomination to the board?

Secondly, in the absence of suitable/qualified members who have been members for more than one year, may the Nominating Committee nominate an individual who is qualified but does not have the one-year membership requirement?

Finally, if an existing board member who is at the end of the first year of a two-year term, chooses to run for another position on the board, do they have to resign the first position in order to run for the second? Finally, if they are not elected, are they no longer a member of the board of directors?

Thank you for your guidance.

Eligibility requirements can not be suspended or waived.

Nothing in RONR requires resigning from one office in order to be nominated for another. For that matter, nothing in RONR prohibits a person from holding more than one office at a time. Your rules may vary.
