Guest Linda Grannan Posted June 5, 2010 at 09:46 PM Report Share Posted June 5, 2010 at 09:46 PM I am the secretary on a council board and the membership made a motion to waive the reading of the minutes, thus approving them without reading them. Can they do this?
Chris Harrison Posted June 5, 2010 at 09:58 PM Report Share Posted June 5, 2010 at 09:58 PM The minutes can be approved without them being read assuming that no one demands them be read. If only one member had demanded it they must be read (RONR p. 343). However, even if someone did demand it and they were ignored that in of itself would not cause their approval to be invalid (RONR pp. 243-244).
