Guest chris Posted June 9, 2010 at 12:02 PM Report Share Posted June 9, 2010 at 12:02 PM We are having our board elections tonight (6/9/10) and half the slate is running unopposed. If there is a candidate that is unopposed can a "NO" vote be cast for that candidate (vote is by ballot)?
Chris Harrison Posted June 9, 2010 at 12:13 PM Report Share Posted June 9, 2010 at 12:13 PM No. If you don't like the unopposed candidate either nominate someone from the floor to oppose him or write in someone else's name.
George Mervosh Posted June 9, 2010 at 12:17 PM Report Share Posted June 9, 2010 at 12:17 PM The key is NOT to put a yes/no option on the ballot. That's not proper.List his/her name and below put a line in for a write-in vote.
Robert B Fish Posted June 9, 2010 at 01:24 PM Report Share Posted June 9, 2010 at 01:24 PM In a quirk of parliamentary law, voting for an illegal person ("Mikey Mouse", "Batman") has the effect of voting agianst the nominee while abstaining does not. If a majority of the votes cast are illegal votes, the result is an incomplete election and you must revote. At that point, you might move to reopen the nominations for that office.-Bob
