Guest Red Jensen Posted June 12, 2010 at 10:24 PM Report Share Posted June 12, 2010 at 10:24 PM We are an organization that has made change in our Bylaws to the effect the uniforms we must were to our functions has changed and we have a member who states that he will wear an old uniform that is different than the new uniform and he says that because it was old policy he does not have to make the change? Is this proper??He says changes in the bylaws are from this point on and do not effect his right to wear a different uniform because he was allowed before the change in bylaws? Old policies and customs have NO automatic status.

Changes to the bylaws take effect immediately and apply to the current situation. There is no automatic "grandfather clause" which is what you'd need in order to exempt those who want to keep wearing the old uniform.By way of analogy, if the bylaws were amended to change the annual dues from $5 to $10, does he think he can still pay $5 because that's what he's been paying?
