Guest Tom Cobb Posted May 14, 2015 at 08:33 PM Report Share Posted May 14, 2015 at 08:33 PM When general proxy votes have been collectedby a Managing Committee of a private organization can they be voted by the Managing Committe on procedural votes, such as an objection to consideration of a question or a motion to postpone or a motion to lay on the table? When general proxy votes have been collectedby a Managing Committee of a private organization can they be voted by the Managing Committe on procedural votes, such as an objection to consideration of a question or a motion to postpone or a motion to lay on the table? See FAQ #10. It's true that the answer will not be found in RONR, and that, as the FAQ says, "the answers to any questions concerning the correct use of proxies, the extent of the power conferred by a proxy, the duration, revocability, or transferability of proxies, and so forth, must be found in the provisions of the law or bylaws which require or authorize their use." However, we can at least point out that a "proxy" is not the same thing as a "proxy vote." I think there is some confusion in asking about "when general proxy votes have been collected." Transpower Posted May 17, 2015 at 12:58 PM Report Share Posted May 17, 2015 at 12:58 PM It depends on the actual wording of the proxy. Is the proxy given to a specific individual who then votes his conscience as he chooses? Or is the proxy given for certain specific votes?
