Guest Strange Al Posted August 9, 2017 at 01:53 AM Report Share Posted August 9, 2017 at 01:53 AM When proposed amendments are required to be submitted in writing as a "Notice of Motion" at least 50 days in advance of the scheduled meeting, is a seconder of the motion required on the notice? Is a seconder required at the meeting to bring the motion to the floor before debate may proceed?
Hieu H. Huynh Posted August 9, 2017 at 02:34 AM Report Share Posted August 9, 2017 at 02:34 AM Even if a second is required, it becomes irrelevant once debate has begun.
Bruce Lages Posted August 9, 2017 at 02:49 AM Report Share Posted August 9, 2017 at 02:49 AM In the order in which you asked - no, a seconder is not required for a notice of motion to be given; and - yes, in general, a motion requires a second before the chair places it before the assembly. An exception to this requirement is in a meeting using the 'small board' rules ( no more than about a dozen members present), where seconds are not required. Transpower Posted August 9, 2017 at 02:50 PM Report Share Posted August 9, 2017 at 02:50 PM Also, if a motion comes from a committee of more than one, then no second is required.
