Filling a vacancy on the Executive Board that was created by a resignation

If the First Vice President of a Board resigns before his term is up, the Second Vice President would move in to fill that vacancy but our bylaws do not state who would then fill the vacancy of the second vice President. The new elections dont take place for another 4 months. It is my assumption that the President of the Board can appoint a current member of the Board of Directors to fill that vacancy for the remaining 4 months of the term. Is this correct?

If the First Vice President of a Board resigns, his vacancy would be filled by the Second Vice President for the remaining four months of the term. This then creates a vacancy on the Executive Board in the Second Vice Presidents position. If the organizations bylaws do not specifically state what to do in this scenario is it safe to assume that the Acting President has the authority to appoint a current director to the Board to fill the Second Vice Presidents position for the remaining 4 months?

Maybe correct, maybe not.  Check you bylaws for how non-presidential (and vice-presidential) vacancies are filled.  Frequently the Board, collectively, has that job, not any one person, but whatever your bylaws say is the rule to follow.

If they say nothing, you hold a special election to fill the rest of the term. RONR, p. 467 & 575.

No, the president only has such powers that the bylaws provide.
