Our bylaws require a 75% approval of the members who vote to do so. The chair called the vote, declared a majority and that it had passed. Members voted for and against, however the numbers were not recorded by the chair. The appearance is that the chair passed the motion based on a simple majority as opposed to a 75% vote. Gary Novosielski Posted April 9, 2018 at 07:40 PM Report Share Posted April 9, 2018 at 07:40 PM The proper procedure would have been to request a counted vote at the time this occurred, and if the chair incorrectly announced the result, to raise a point of order at the time. At this point, however, there's not much you can do except to make another motion to amend the bylaws if they don't say what they should. Agreeing with Mr. Novosielski, once the chair announced that the motion had been adopted and no one raised a point of order at the time he made the announcement, the announcement of the chair stands and the bylaw amendment has been adopted. YSYL.... You snooze, you lose. That is one of those occasions when it is imperative to speak up.... and quickly! You just might be stuck with it. Rescinding a motion to amend the bylaws will require another motion to amend the bylaws. Apparently, the bylaws require a 3/4 vote for their amendment.
