President resigns now what?

If the bylaws are silent on a vacancy in the chairman's (president) office specifically, the vice-chairman (vice-president) automatically ascends and you have a vacancy in the vice-chairman's office. If your bylaws detail how to fill vacancies, they should be followed. Otherwise a special election would be held to elect a new vice-chairman.

Unless the By-laws specifically state otherwise, the Vice-Chairman ( or Vice-President) would automatically become Chairman (or President) should the Chairman/President resign. There would then be a vacancy for Vice-Chairman (or Vice-President.) The only way I know that this would not occur is if the By-laws specifically state that the Vice-Chairman (Vice-President) does not become the Chairman (Vice-Chairman) in the event of the Chairman (President) no longer holding office mid-term (due to resignation, removal, etc.) or if there is a Chairman (President) Elect position.
