  1. Thanks a lot Richard! That was a huge help; I'd assumed as such, but I'm no expert in procedure.
  2. Hi, I'm part of a student government, and recently the chair proposed a rules change after some issues with disruptive behaviour (talking over others, rudeness, etc.) during meetings. The rule is essentially a two-strikes policy, whereby anyone breaking the chair's definition of decorum is removed from the assembly for the session and cannot vote. The issue is that this rule was put in place with no input from the assembly, and I can't find anything in our SG constitution, or Robert's Rules to back it up. If it was passed as an amendment to the constitution, it would be fine, but I'm a bit worried about the current implementation. Is this established procedure in anyway? Thanks!
  3. That's the plan; I'd assumed they'd changed it until I just looked back. I have no idea why they switched to this procedure.
  4. Thank you for your answers! I checked over the constitution for the body and votes are supposed to be taken by show of hands...the combination voice vote-hands procedure has only been in place with the newest chair. We're roughly 20 members in the assembly, so they may opt just to change to the voice vote, but the combination always seemed a bit odd to me. I'll bring it up with them next week; going to suggest they inform members of the possibility of calling "Division" on close votes as well.
  5. Hi, I apologize if this is something rather obvious, but I can't quite seem to find it anything like this in RR. I sit on a student government body in which the prompt is essentially "All those in favor raise your hand, all those opposed say "No."" This seems a bit of a mishmash of procedures, as well as having a tendency to confuse things on close votes, made worse by the fact that our chair refuses to call roll calls. Any suggestions? Thanks!
