  1. Thank you for the detailed responses. I apologize for my lack of clarity, I'm still fairly new to RONR. I meant informally as an alternate to committee of the whole. Because, as far as I can tell that is what they are already doing in a practical sense. And this style seems to work fairly well for them (70 years or so) but every few years they come across a contentious issue that would benefit from falling back on a more strict set of rules. I was hoping to be able to suggest a way for them to continue what they are currently doing, but also be able to use the full RONR when the need arises. As far as membership goes, nominally there are 1,000 members, practically maybe 300 go through the doors with any regularity, and they usually expect 30-40 at meetings. All those numbers are Pre-COVID. Minimum threshold for quorum is at least 5 of the 9 officers and at least 10 additional members in good standing.
  2. Well the group I'm referencing is a social club, they have a charter and bylaws but no formal reference for rules of order. I spoke with a long time officer who said that the meetings (every other week) have always been informal and only every few years or so have they ever had any problems that would have required formality. The suggestion had been made to adopt a new bylaw that was along the lines of "meetings will be conducted informally unless other wise voted upon by the membership", or something of that nature. But that lead to my curiosity of, what would be the formal way to make a motion that the rest of the meeting be done informally?
