  1. I have no idea why I worded it that way, I was frustrated and tired last night. But there were 35 total votes, 20 for to 15 against.
  2. I figured out that last question for myself, I was referring to suspending the rules during the debate of the initiation process, but I answered that question upon further review of RONR. Also to clarify about the voting, they're 20 For, 15 Against, the motion, so we did have a majority of people vote for the motion, but since I was under the impression it needed 2/3 vote the motion failed with no one objecting. Thank you all for the responses very much appreciated!
  3. Hello, I am the Chairman of a student government group, and I made a big mistake at our meeting tonight. Our bylaws amending process works like this: Tonight, we were voting on the motion to consider, and I was under the impression that we needed 2/3rd vote to move forward with initiation, the vote failed 20/35. However after reviewing the bylaws, I now realize it's only a majority vote. I am very frustrated with myself because I wrote the bylaws and now I got it wrong. Nobody appealed my decision during the meeting. Can the failed motion be made again since the motion is only to initiate the amending process? Or this out of order, and this bylaw changes need to be reapproved by the committee? How should I advise my senate on moving forward with my mistake? Also a side question: would it be out order for someone to suspend the rules in the bylaw amendment initiation motion since its not the actual bylaw debate? Thank you for your time and consideration.
  4. Hello, In my organization's bylaws, our resolutions must be taken up and passed by a committee before it can be taken up for business in our main senate meeting. However tonight's agenda for our senate was distributed with a failed resolution because the committee voted down the resolution right about 30 minutes prior to the main senate meeting. My question is if the agenda has already been distributed should the agenda be amended during the approval our agenda or should we automatically remove it from the agenda prior to our main senate meeting since the resolution failed in committee. Thank you
