72 hours

Easy question: does 72 hours mean simply 72 hours or does it mean business hours?

It could mean anything. It all depends on where it appears and, ultimately, the meaning your organization gives to it. [page 570ff]

Note that the meaning of, say, 7 days notice means seven days, counting weekends and holidays, counting the day of mailing but not counting the day of the meeting.

It's an easy question with an easy answer: "72 hours" means 72 hours. It's more accurate than saying "three days".

If you're given a 24-hour deadline, do you think it means 3 days (i.e. three 8-hour business days)?

"Easy question"?

Yes, if you depend on Robert's Rules of Order for answer, for the answer is "Unknown."

RONR (tenth edition, 2000) does not answer such questions.

Your rule is not taken from any parliamentary authority, but is a customized wording, either of your own creation, or imposed on you from on high.

Either way, it isn't an area of parliamentary inquiry.

Ask the party who created the rule, or who imposed on you this rule.

They ought to know. It's their rule.

Analogy:

Your question is like depending on the Bible for answer to the medieval question,

"How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?"
