Guest tfrontado Posted February 16, 2011 at 09:11 PM Report Share Posted February 16, 2011 at 09:11 PM Hi, We recently took a vote on a matter and the final toll was 11 votes in favor and one against the motion. When the secretary submitted the minutes, it was only reflected as "The motion was adopted" and the document did not reflect the fact that there was a dissenting vote. What is the appropriate wording for cases like this one?
David A Foulkes Posted February 16, 2011 at 09:25 PM Report Share Posted February 16, 2011 at 09:25 PM If the vote was handled by one of the counted methods, such as a ballot or counted rising vote, the number of votes for ayes and nos would be noted. For a roll-call vote, the names of each member present and how they voted would be included. For most votes, which are handled by a voice vote, even though you know only one member dissented, you would still simply note "the motion carried" or "the motion was adopted" without further reference to the vote count or member names.
