Guest Patrice Posted March 16, 2011 at 03:47 AM Report Share Posted March 16, 2011 at 03:47 AM Greetings,In 2002 a motion was made, seconded & carried in regard to a fundraising sale--in particular the name to be used for this sale and the division of funds--50/50 -- 50% retained by the Non-profit organization holding the sale and 50% to a fire fund. Over the years responsibilites & funding have changed considerably--the non-profit group would like to revisit the division of funds & maintain the name of the sale. How is this done?We are thinking Article VI --#37 to "set aside" or "annul" the motion made in 2002--and then move onto a new discussion and motion. ???Thank you,Patrice
Josh Martin Posted March 16, 2011 at 03:55 AM Report Share Posted March 16, 2011 at 03:55 AM How is this done? The best method would be to adopt a motion to Amend Something Previously Adopted to change the motion into whatever you want to replace it. This requires a 2/3 vote, a vote of a majority of the entire membership, or a majority vote with previous notice. We are thinking Article VI --#37 to "set aside" or "annul" the motion made in 2002--and then move onto a new discussion and motion. ???Well, that is another option, but Amend Something Previously Adopted will allow you to accomplish all of this in a single motion. You should also get a copy of the current (10th) edition of Robert's Rules of Order, Newly Revised. You're looking at the 4th edition.
