Guest est Posted May 3, 2011 at 08:59 PM Report Share Posted May 3, 2011 at 08:59 PM The Board , Council decided to separate the Members Forum and the Motions from the Floor from the official Annual Business Meeting. This self-governing organization always had the Members Forum and Motions within the Annual Meeting. Now they created an other meeting with a coffee brake after the Annual Meeting, not part of the Annual Meeting. Our By-law says, that the Annual Meeting has to be held according to Roberts Rules of Order. There is no provision for any other meeting, except Special Meetings, which has it's own rules and reason. The reason council doing that to be more free from members involvement, and not to hear more about the complaints, when they usually refuse to accept when were properly voted in. Now we don't even have any official voting members on this no-name meeting. Council's proposal is definitely changes the importance of the Motions. ( this is not to be confused with the By-Law Motions, which remained part of the AM.) My question: Can Council decide without the members consent to delete the Motions-From-The-Floor from the Annual Meeting? Is there any provision in Roberts Rule of Orders for the content of the Annual Meeting? Like to have Members Forum or MFTF ? Thank you, est

The board (your council?) should have nothing to do with a meeting of the general membership, annual or otherwise. And, since the council, as the council, won't be there, feel free to ignore it.An annual meeting is just one of a series of regular meetings (though, apparently, it's your only regular meeting) at which such annual business as reports and elections take place. Any business which can come up at regular meeting (which is basically any business at all) can be considered at the ennual meeting (subject, of course, to any previous notice requirements). See RONR, 10th ed., pgs. 342-351 for more information on the standard order of business.Like to have Members Forum or MFTF ? "Motions from the Floor" would likely be "New Business," which is one of the headings included in the standard order of business. "Members' Forum" sounds similar to "Open Forum," which is an optional heading in the standard order of business.
