Guest Thekid-Jason Posted May 12, 2011 at 08:08 PM Report Share Posted May 12, 2011 at 08:08 PM Can an item, that was defeated at a previous meeting, be introduced again at a later meeting? My example is that an item was introduced a meeting in February. This group meets quarterly so there has been no meeting in between then & now. A member would like to reintroduce the defeated motion once again even though there is no new cost or information and the item requested is exactly the same as before. Is this permissible? If so, what would prevent someone from continually doing this until they hopefully get their way (the squeaky wheel theory)?

If the main motion is an original main motion (pp. 95, 96), the assembly can refuse to consider it by a two-thirds negative vote on an Objection to the Consideration of the Question, RONR (10th ed.), §26, pp. 258ff. Rev Ed Posted May 12, 2011 at 08:28 PM Report Share Posted May 12, 2011 at 08:28 PM If you do not want it dealt with again, two fast options are:1) 2/3 vote on the "Objection to the Consideration of the Question", or;2) As soon as the Chairman has stated the motion, move the previous question and then vote down the motion.
