Unexpected executive board vacancy

Our President unexpected died which is'nt covered in our bylaws. Can we appoint an intern president under Roberts Rules.

RONR p. 442 says:

In case of the resignation or death of the president, the vice-president (if there is only one) or the first vice-president (if there are more than one) automatically becomes president for the unexpired term, unless the bylaws expressly provide otherwise for filling a vacancy in the office of president. The second vice-president, if there is one, then becomes first vice-president, and so on, with the vacancy to be filled occurring in the lowest-ranking vice-presidency.

...and previous notice would be needed before the vacancy is filled.

If the president is replaced by the vice-president can an interm vice-president be appointed until the next general election.

You need to follow whatever procedures your bylaws spell out for filling vacancies. If they are silent on filling vacancies then you need to hold an election to elect a VP.

Under Robert's Rules, your vice president has already become president. The method for filling the vacancy that now exists in the vice-presidency should be found in your bylaws.

Sometimes the bylaws allow the remainder of the board to fill vacancies. If there's nothing there, you'll need to hold a special election by those who normally elect the vice-president.

RONR has no use for "interim" officers. When officers need replacing, you replace them with the real thing.
