meeting cancelations

I have a question regarding meetings. Our Association Board has held monthly open meetings of the Board since 1974. The notice of the meetings with time is written on signs in our three parks. For the last 6 months or so, the Board has been in conflict with the members. At the last meeting of the Board 3 months ago, the Board voted on a new Budget.. not presented to the members, just among themselves.. then they voted that they could spend up to the Budget limits (set at $8000 over income) without further votes, AND they voted that the Association would pay any legal expenses encountered by the Board.

Now after two months with cancelled meetings, they held an Executive Session and voted to cancel all monthly meetings. The members are outraged. Since our Bylaws have a lines

>>>"The Board of Directors may provide by resolution the time and place for the holding of additional regular meetings of the board without other notice than such resolution. Board meetings will be posted on the designated sign in front of the Eagle Point Bay Association building. Regular business of the Board of Directors will be conducted first, then under the good of the Association, members may request to speak by notification when they sign in on the attendance sheet on entering meeting hall.<<<

Is it the opinon of this group that they are entitled to change years of practice and suddenly, work without meetings?

The board is free to change years of practice, but the board may not work without meetings unless some method of doing so is provided in your Bylaws. So far as RONR is concerned, the board may only conduct business at meetings. The board may also not violate the Bylaws. Since the section you quote talks about additional regular meetings, is there some other section which talks about the, er, "regular" regular meetings?

Since this seems to be only the last in a long line of problems with the board, you might want to also look at FAQ #20.
