Board members holding multiple positions

What is the rule on holding multiple board positions and therefore taking voting rights away from potential people wanting a position on the board. We have several board members whom hold 2-3 positions and do not want to give up or set down from those positions even though there are others whom are interested in filling those positions. Can these positions be voted on anytime throughout the term or only during the yearly vote? Should there be only one position held at a time with the others listed as open(temporary filled by a board member until filled), and filled as people step forward?

It violates no rule in RONR.

Can these positions be voted on anytime throughout the term or only during the yearly vote?

The positions may only be voted on when the terms end and the positions are up for election.

Should there be only one position held at a time with the others listed as open(temporary filled by a board member until filled), and filled as people step forward?

The Bylaws may be amended to provide for such an arrangement if desired. So far as RONR is concerned, the board members may hold multiple positions for the full term if they are elected to those positions.
