Guest Bruce Posted June 28, 2011 at 03:01 PM Report Share Posted June 28, 2011 at 03:01 PM During our last meeting a motion was made, seconded and it was passed. At the next meeting there is a group of people that want to reverse that decision. Can that be done with a simple majority or will it need 2/3? George Mervosh Posted June 28, 2011 at 03:22 PM Report Share Posted June 28, 2011 at 03:22 PM "In an assembly, except when applied to a constitution, bylaws, or special rules of order, require (a) a two-thirds vote, ( B ) a majority vote when notice of intent to make the motion, stating the complete substance of the proposed change, has been given at the previous meeting or in the call of the present meeting, or ( c) a vote of a majority of the entire membership - whichever is most practical to obtain." At the next meeting there is a group of people that want to reverse that decision. Can that be done with a simple majority or will it need 2/3?The requirement generally is a 2/3 vote, a majority if previous notice is given, or a majority of the entire membership. A few types of things require more or cannot be rescinded.
Guest shinetiger Posted July 18, 2011 at 03:21 AM Report Share Posted July 18, 2011 at 03:21 AM The only time you can reconsider a motion is the same day it was passed or the next day in a multiple-day meeting. Even then, the motion to reconsider has to be raised by someone on the prevailing side.

Also, an original main motion can be reconsidered whether it was adopted or lost.
Georgia s Posted February 4, 2016 at 01:04 PM Report Share Posted February 4, 2016 at 01:04 PM A motion was made at a meeting in 2012. In 2016, after study of our ByLaws, this motion was a mistake in it's entirety and affected several committees. What needs to be done now.
