Sara Posted July 26, 2011 at 03:17 AM Report Share Posted July 26, 2011 at 03:17 AM Two items I am faced with as an incoming president:(1) newly elected secy will be absent. Bylaws say that secy should be elected - pro tem. Should that action item come prior to Minutes Approved since someone needs to start taking minutes right away.....(2) elections were held in April. there was a vacancy in Vice President. Now, someone has come forward agreeing to be elected at our August meeting. Should this action come under Unfinished Business or New Business?Thank you,Sara

Now, someone has come forward agreeing to be elected at our August meeting. Should this action come under Unfinished Business or New Business? This sounds more like an incomplete election than a vacancy, so Unfinished Business would be the appropriate time. If you actually did elect someone in April and that person subsequently resigned, then it would be a vacancy, and it would come under New Business - also, previous notice would be required. What if some one votes after?A tie vote elects no one. You need to hold another round of balloting (and another and another if necessary) until one candidate gets a majority (more votes than all other candidates combined). What if some one votes after? And barring some wildly obscure rule, no one votes "after". If anyone hasn't voted yet, and the polls are still open, then you don't have a tie....yet. And that's another can of worms to open.
