Guest Susy Smith Posted August 9, 2011 at 08:02 PM Report Share Posted August 9, 2011 at 08:02 PM When a motion is going to a Membership meeting as a recommendation from the Board of Trustees, is amendment to that motion allowed or can it be discussed and then have an up or down vote on the motion? This is organizational name change and therefore a by-law change, but the by-laws do not speak to this except to say that a 2/3 vote is required and governed by RRO. Again for that same issue, is a secret ballot to decide the question permitted?
George Mervosh Posted August 9, 2011 at 08:40 PM Report Share Posted August 9, 2011 at 08:40 PM 1) Proposed amendments to the bylaws are amendable in a limited way. (RONR, pp. 576-577) I wouldn't hazard a guess on what that window is for a name change.2) A motion to vote by ballot can be made by anyone and requires a second, is not debatable, and takes a majority vote to adopt. RONR, p. 273ff
