redogue Posted August 16, 2011 at 12:02 PM Report Share Posted August 16, 2011 at 12:02 PM Our by-laws state that nomination for officers is to be held in September for voting in December. This year, notice our of next meeting has come out with our next meeting with nominations in October. There is a member and current officer of the club who people are trying to vote out and this person will be out of the country in October. I was wondering if this would be considered a valid election if we are not following the by-laws. Also, there was no motion and vote to change from September to October. We have plenty of time to have the meeting in September and to give the membership notice of the meeting. Opinions anyone?

Opinions anyone?RONR contains no provision for cancelling or rescheduling meetings, so that authority would have to be prescribed by the bylaws or other governing documents. Do your bylaws restrict nominations to only those persons who are in attendance at the nominations meeting? Per RONR, you don't have to be present to be nominated. And if elected, you can refuse to serve anyway once you are notified.
