Guest King Posted August 19, 2011 at 03:10 PM Report Share Posted August 19, 2011 at 03:10 PM Is it appropriate to discuss the decision of the committee recommendations with other board members prior to the meeting in which the information will be provided and the vote on the issue taken? jstackpo Posted August 19, 2011 at 03:24 PM Report Share Posted August 19, 2011 at 03:24 PM RONR has no gag rules. Just as long as the official decision, preceded by debate, is reached in the meeting, not before.
Tim Wynn Posted August 19, 2011 at 03:32 PM Report Share Posted August 19, 2011 at 03:32 PM Is it appropriate to discuss the decision of the committee recommendations with other board members prior to the meeting in which the information will be provided and the vote on the issue taken?I suspect Mr. Elsman would point to RONR(10th ed.), p. 93, l. 2-3, which states that committee meetings are customarily held in executive session. jstackpo Posted August 19, 2011 at 04:28 PM Report Share Posted August 19, 2011 at 04:28 PM Right -- a slight overstatement on my part. RONR (strictly speaking, "customarily" isn't a "rule") has no gag rule, but a committee (or Assembly or Board, &c.) can impose one on itself via the motion "Executive Session". David A Foulkes Posted August 19, 2011 at 05:35 PM Report Share Posted August 19, 2011 at 05:35 PM I suspect Mr. Elsman would point to RONR(10th ed.), p. 93, l. 2-3, which states that committee meetings are customarily held in executive session. But they still must adopt a motion (or rule?) to meet in ES, yes? Just because it's a committee meeting does not automatically make it an executive session, right?

jstackpo Posted August 20, 2011 at 10:26 AM Report Share Posted August 20, 2011 at 10:26 AM But the better part of wisdom would suggest that the committee should adopt ExecSess to be sure (only if they want to, of course).
