Counting the votes

Is it a rule that the ballots (for motions/not elections) be counted at a meeting and the results given to members at that time. Our members seem to disappear/lose interest/get bored because the counting of the ballots can take up to an hour and a half. Would it be okay for the meeting to be adjourned, the tellers go off and conduct the count, give the results to the Chairperson who would then post the results in the Clubhouse - for instance?

No.

This part is fine.

This part needs some tweaking. The results must be announced at a meeting to be final (although it does not have to be the same meeting at which the vote was taken). Any posted results would be tentative and would need to be reported at a meeting to become official. If this is an assembly which meets relatively frequently, you could report the results at the next meeting. If this assembly meets rarely (such as once a year), it would be better to set up an adjourned meeting later in the day, and have some sort of meal or social event while the ballots are being counted. Another option would be to hold the elections early in the meeting and proceed with other business while the ballots are being counted.

Why are you taking ballots for motions? Unless it is something special/controversial, a voice vote is usually used. Or is there something that we do not understand about what is happening?
