BryanSullo Posted October 25, 2011 at 01:49 PM Report Share Posted October 25, 2011 at 01:49 PM If an assembly adopts RONR as its parliamentary authority (in the bylaws), are the boards and standing committees that are listed in the bylaws also compelled to use RONR as their parliamentary authority, or are they free to conduct business in the manner they choose? BryanSullo Posted October 25, 2011 at 02:33 PM Author Report Share Posted October 25, 2011 at 02:33 PM I suppose having an electronic format might make it too easy to have electronic meetings. In all serious though (and back on topic) can someone paraphrase the answer to my original question? (I promise I'll look up the reference tonight.) David A Foulkes Posted October 25, 2011 at 02:51 PM Report Share Posted October 25, 2011 at 02:51 PM "The executive board of an organized society operates under the society's bylaws, the society's parliamentary authority, and blah blah yada yada." Trina Posted October 25, 2011 at 02:52 PM Report Share Posted October 25, 2011 at 02:52 PM 'The executive board of an organized society operates under the society's bylaws, the society's parliamentary authority, and any special rules of order or standing rules of the society which may be applicable to it. Such a board may adopt its own special rules of order or standing rules only to the extent that such rules do not conflict with any of the rules of the soicety listed above.' (citation above)Aha, I'm a more ambitious typist today than Mr. Foulkes. Also, in response to Mr. Stackpole's criticism above, note that although Mr. Sullo has failed to bring RONR11 with him, he is visiting this forum while 'at work' -- that's got to count for something

Burke Balch Posted October 25, 2011 at 03:59 PM Report Share Posted October 25, 2011 at 03:59 PM To answer the other half of Mr. Sullo's question, pertaining to committees:Committees of organized societies operate under the bylaws, the parliamentary authority, and any special rules of order or standing rules of the society which may be applicable to them. RONR (11th ed.), p. 500, ll. 22-25.
Guest Gary c Tesser Posted October 27, 2011 at 11:02 AM Report Share Posted October 27, 2011 at 11:02 AM Mr Balch deftly plucked his copy of RONR (11th ed.) from his cool-parliamentarian belt-pouch, wile Alan H had to tediously thumb through his well-worn and dog-eared (and, may I say in fond reminiscence, bilious gold-covered, Foulkesesque Arvicanthis niloticus-fur-lined) Kindle copy, which is why they posted at the same time.
