Guest Guest User Posted October 28, 2011 at 02:36 PM Report Share Posted October 28, 2011 at 02:36 PM My board President resigned. The current Immediate Past President is reluctant to remain for another term as the Immediate Past President. How can we fill that position, can it be a former past President? David A Foulkes Posted October 28, 2011 at 02:39 PM Report Share Posted October 28, 2011 at 02:39 PM Per RONR, and unless the bylaws explicitly say otherwise, when the president resigns (was his resignation accepted?) the Vice-President automatically becomes the President, and a vacancy is created in the VP Office. The reluctant Immediate Past President has also just been replaced by the resigning President. And assuming your bylaws actually define the position of Immediate Past President, there's not much he (the resigner) can do about it.
Guest Guest User Posted October 28, 2011 at 02:46 PM Report Share Posted October 28, 2011 at 02:46 PM The President's resignation was accepted. The remaining term is one year. What I hear is that after the Immediate Past President fulfills his term (remaining year), since the current President resigned, the Immediate Past President position will go vacant for the term? If the Board wanted to, could they put a Past President into that position?

Whether the board could do what you suggest depends on the exact wording in your bylaws regarding the IPP position, and the powers of the board. Tim Wynn Posted October 28, 2011 at 04:47 PM Report Share Posted October 28, 2011 at 04:47 PM The bylaws will dictate what happens with the office of IPP, if the office exists.
