Nominating Committee

What exactly is the role of the Nominating Chair if not spelled out in the By-Laws. Is he to solicit members to serve on the board, simply take a slate from the President or wait for people to approach him to serve? Thanks so much.

Nothing, except that...

If he is the chair if s committee or assembly, his role would be to preside at meetings of that body.

If he holds no meetings and the president hands him a slate to present to the board can he change it or just present it as written?

Isn't the president an exofficio members of all committees?

Yes, there has been no one named on the Nominating Committee other than the Committee Chair.

If your bylaws call for more members the assembly should have elected that number.

RONR recommends that the president be excluded from any participation on the nominating committee and that he not appoint it.

In any event, after the report of the nominating committee is received, the chair must call for further nominations from the floor. So, while you may miss out on the benefit of having a proper nominating committee, nominations won't be restricted by such an occurrence.
