Guest Jean Posted November 3, 2011 at 02:51 PM Report Share Posted November 3, 2011 at 02:51 PM I number all of my resolutions after the Board of Commissioners votes on them. I also number the resolution for adjournment.I adjourned my last meeting without a quorum or motion to close. Do I still give this resolution a number. The resolution states that the meeting was adjourned without a quorum and it gives the time the meeting was adjourned.Thank you for your help.Jean
jstackpo Posted November 3, 2011 at 02:54 PM Report Share Posted November 3, 2011 at 02:54 PM Since adjourning is one of the parliamentary actions that is permitted without a quorum present (otherwise you could never go home!), it seems appropriate to "number" the motion to adjourn -- even if it's an "assumed motion" -- along with all the others. Gary Novosielski Posted November 3, 2011 at 03:01 PM Report Share Posted November 3, 2011 at 03:01 PM RONR does not require numbering resolutions. So, if you have rules that say you must, follow them. I don't see the point of ever numbering a resolution to adjourn, but they're not my rules, nor RONR's. Tim Wynn Posted November 3, 2011 at 03:42 PM Report Share Posted November 3, 2011 at 03:42 PM She mentioned a preamble, "Edgar"?The absence of a preamble doesn't make it any less absurd. A motion to Adjourn, except under conditions listed in RONR (11th ed.), p. 234, ll. 12-21, is a privileged motion. Also, I doubt it was actually framed as a motion. I suspect the use of "numbered resolution" is a misguided mechanism for keeping records.
