Correcting Error

At a recent BOD meeting we voted on a motion to rescind a standing rule. We do so without previous notice. We did not realize that without previous notice a two thirds majority was required. The motion was declared "passed" with a simple majority and did not receive a two thirds majority. The meinutes have been written and distributed reflecting that a motion was passed to rescind the standing rule. Our next meeting is about three weeks away. How do we correct this error?

You don't. Since a timely Point of Order wasn't raised that a 2/3 vote was required it is too late to object now. See Official Interpretation 2006-18 for details. However, if previous notice wasn't given another option than a 2/3 vote is a majority of the ENTIRE membership (of the Board) so depending on how many members voted in favor of the motion compared to the total number of Board members you might have properly adopted the motion after all. :)

The result declared by the chair stands. The assembly can adopt the motion anew at the next meeting, if desired.
