Trina Posted November 22, 2011 at 12:42 PM Report Share Posted November 22, 2011 at 12:42 PM In the case of an offense against the assembly which occurs during a meeting, the assembly has the power to impose a penalty on the spot. That penalty could include a decision 'that his rights of membership be suspended for a time' (RONR 11th ed. p. 647 ll. 18-19). You should really read more of the surrounding text on pp. 646-647. Dan Honemann Posted November 22, 2011 at 12:48 PM Report Share Posted November 22, 2011 at 12:48 PM Can a board member be banned from BOD meetings because of being disruptive. As to this question, see RONR, 11th ed. page 486, lines 19-25. There are limits as to how far a subordinate board can go in disciplining one of its own members.
Trina Posted November 22, 2011 at 02:07 PM Report Share Posted November 22, 2011 at 02:07 PM As to this question, see RONR, 11th ed. page 486, lines 19-25. There are limits as to how far a subordinate board can go in disciplining one of its own members. That's interesting -- as Mr. Honemann points out, a board member can only be required to leave the room 'during the remainder of the meeting' (p. 486, as cited) -- apparently the wider array of penalties described on pp. 646-647 are available to the assembly of the society (i.e. the assembly of the general membership), but not to subordinate assemblies such as a board. It's easy to miss this distinction (or at least I apparently found it easy to miss ) when reading those pages. Page 486, however, is quite clear on the matter.
