Guest Cindy Posted February 17, 2012 at 11:50 AM Report Share Posted February 17, 2012 at 11:50 AM Can anyone be in charge of running a meeting? Our President almost always chooses another person to do this.
Chris Harrison Posted February 17, 2012 at 12:03 PM Report Share Posted February 17, 2012 at 12:03 PM Can anyone be in charge of running a meeting? The only limitations on who can preside would be in the bylaws. Our President almost always chooses another person to do this. ...And by what authority does he do this? Does the assembly accept his choice or do the bylaws grant him the authority to unilaterally choose who will preside?
David A Foulkes Posted February 17, 2012 at 12:09 PM Report Share Posted February 17, 2012 at 12:09 PM And why doesn't the President himself preside? Under RONR that is the primary responsibility of that office. What the heck?
Rev Ed Posted February 17, 2012 at 04:33 PM Report Share Posted February 17, 2012 at 04:33 PM The only time I have seen something like this is a special meeting of the general membership where the President would call the meeting to order and then ask for consent to hand over the Chair to someone else (usually the organization's lawyer) in order to make the appearance of impartiality on the Board's part. But if someone objected, then the President would have had to continue chairing the meeting.
