Mark41 Posted February 23, 2012 at 03:30 AM Report Share Posted February 23, 2012 at 03:30 AM We are having trouble on who is really incharge of finding an auditor for the treasurer's books. Our by-laws do not state, and our power mad president is demanding that is her power, as president, to find an auditor. She is also telling the Treasurer he doesn't need to be present. Is she right or wrong in this matter.Mark
Tim Wynn Posted February 23, 2012 at 03:31 AM Report Share Posted February 23, 2012 at 03:31 AM The authority to do anything is vested in the assembly of the society, unless the bylaws or the assembly directs otherwise.Check the bylaws to see what power the president has. RONR doesn't give say, "that is her power, as president, to find an auditor." Ask her to show you where this is written.

Josh Martin Posted February 23, 2012 at 03:44 AM Report Share Posted February 23, 2012 at 03:44 AM She is also telling the Treasurer he doesn't need to be president. This sentence makes little sense at face value in the provided context. Is "president" a typo for "present," perhaps? Or something else?
Tim Wynn Posted February 23, 2012 at 03:51 AM Report Share Posted February 23, 2012 at 03:51 AM She is also telling the Treasurer he doesn't need to be president. If this is "present," I'm not sure what she's saying. Present for what? For the selection of an auditor? For the actual auditing process? RONR doesn't require or prohibit any of this. It will be up to your organization to decide.
